Abnormality Surname: The Backdrop

Risk Level: Disruptive

Status Level: Dormant

Type: Event

Abnormality #0011, commonly referred to as "The Backdrop," is a visual anomaly affecting the skybox, lighting, and background rendering of Garry's Mod maps. When present, it causes distant scenery and environmental lighting to shift, mutate, or mirror incorrectly, creating the illusion that the map is inside-out or looping.

At first, this phenomenon appears to be a lighting bug - common in older maps or poorly compiled environments. However, as time progresses:
Skyboxes no longer match the map's theme.
Light_env entities begin casting shadows in reverse.
Map begins to create a dark and thick fog.

Discovered on July 13th, 2016, during the use of a heavily modified version of gm_construct. The player noticed the skybox flashing between space, an empty void, and a frozen version of the main menu background.

A clip was uploaded under the filename sky_sinks_back.mp4, but the original source was lost. Fragments of the video still circulate in GMod creepypasta circles.

Though not harmful in the traditional sense, prolonged exposure to "The Backdrop" leads to extreme unease and disorientation. Some players report motion sickness or a sense of "unrealness" after experiencing the duplicated worlds or inconsistent sun placement.

The effect escalates slowly. In multiplayer, only one player sees it at a time - the one who has spent the most cumulative time on the map.
